OUR DIARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES IN February 2009

During February, things have begun to get back to normal.  I am well on the road to full recovery and have started to resume normal activities.

Feb 2nd:  Mr Shipolini had to postpone the planned review of my surgery.  He wasd 'snowed in' and couldn't get to Swindon.

Feb 3rd:  In spite of the contiuning snow, the Open House Lunch went ahead with slightly reduced numbers.  Meg Atkinson MBE of SASRA was the speaker.

Feb 4th: We heard that our friend Margaret Girvin (who had lived in Poole) had had a heart attack and died suddenly last Saturday.

Feb 8th:  At church today, we heard that our Moderator, Bev Savage, has become engaged!

Feb 9th:  I took my first drive since the operation.  It was an experimental drive to see if I could do it.  It worked OK

Feb 10th:  I drove myself to the hairdressers!

Feb 11th: I attended my first Full Governors' Board meeting at Broad Town School,  since my operation

Feb 12th: I did another 'experimental' drive, but this time in the Xantia.  Once again it went OK. Later I drove myself to Taw Hill Surgery.

Feb 13th:  Our daughter-in-law, Diana, came to spend overnight with us.

Feb 15th:  We went to Julian and Fiona for Sunday lunch.  I drove the Xantia as far as the first service station on the M4 - my first motorway driving.  In the evening there was an excellent celebration of the 25th anniversary of Mission England on Songs of Praise on the BBC.  I should have been in the recording, but I was in hospital at the time.

Feb 16th: We went to Bournemouth for the funeral of Margaret Girvin - and afterwards to the 'Wake' at her mother's former home.  Then back home to Swindon.  I drove as far as Chievley on the M4 on the way there.

Feb 17th  Now that I am over 80, we qualify for free cavity wall installation, and the work was done today.

Feb 18th: Jacky and family came to lunch (driven by Chris, Rachel's friend).

Feb 19th:  Marilyn went to a planning meeting for the Womens' World Day of Prayer (in which she is doing a reading)

Feb 20th:  I spent the morning updating the comprehensive inded for the Arthur Ransome Society publication Mixdd Moss 2008

Feb 21st: We went to the 80th birthday party for Pauline Young (who had been on my staff at the Evangelical Alliance in 1954)  I showed the film His Land.

Feb 23rd:  We did a big drive around Swindon all the morning, calling in at several places.

Feb 26th:  I went to Great Western Hospital for a CT Scan as part of the conclusions for my operation etc.

Feb 27th: There was a (fairly good) classical music concert at church tonight.

Feb 28th:  We had a good morning at Lechlade Garden Centre

I'd love to know if you have read this account of our monthly activity. Would you send me an eMail to mauricerow@btinternet.com to say 'Been in and read that' and tell me who you are!
